„The Funky Chicken Club” is a legendary club concept that was born in Cologne in 1994 and is now being reimagined in Berlin. Blending vinyl culture, deep house, disco, creative performances, and an open-minded community, it creates a truly unique nightlife experience. It was originally conceived as a deliberate alternative to mainstream commercial clubbing. During its peak years in Cologne, the event ran every Tuesday and welcomed well over 2,000 guests on a regular basis.

Tuesday has been part of the DNA from day one. Back in Cologne “The Funky Chicken Club” proved that unforgettable nights don’t need to wait for the weekend. By design, Tuesday becomes the most exciting night of the week.

“The Funky Chicken Club” takes place every Tuesday at Kater Club, located at Berlin’s iconic Holzmarkt district—one of the city’s most influential venues for creative and alternative club culture.

The experience starts begins early at 6:00 PM and gradually evolves from a laid-back sundowner atmosphere into open-air vibes and, ultimately, a high-energy club night. The event ends strictly at 1:00 AM.

Expect a warm, groove-driven soundtrack blending Deep House, Disco, and Funk, with strong influences from New York City, Chicago and Detroit. At its core, the music is all about emotion, danceability, and uncompromising quality.

Every music artist performs exclusively on vinyl records. Vinyl is an essential part of the “Funky Chicken” identity, delivering an authentic, warm, and vibrant sound experience that simply can’t be replicated.

 

The event is hosted by Andreas Gessner, co-founder of the “original Funky Chicken Club”, together with Landolf von der Heydt of VAULT Events. Both have been influential figures in European club and event culture for decades. With a personal collection of more than 30,000 records and over 1,000 DJ sets to his name, Andreas Gessner is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most respected vinyl DJs. Since the early 1990s, he has been seamlessly blending disco classics with contemporary house grooves, creating a signature style that remains uniquely his own.
